How does a heterojunction solar cell work?

Heterojunction cells feature an n-type silicon wafer on which thin layers of doped and intrinsic amorphous silicon and transparent conductive oxide (TCO) layers are deposited on both sides to absorb the generated power. Heterojunction technology (HJT) was patented by the Japanese company Sanyo (now Panasonic) and has been used for a very long time in the production of solar cells.
